About Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a hands-on manual therapy that utilises a range of techniques to release tight tissues, relieve pain and optimise your body's ability to function healthily. We use an established system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. Osteopaths believe the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together. Your osteopath may use soft tissue massage, gentle movement of the joints, joint manipulation and cranial osteopathy to help improve your posture and your body's function.
You do not need a GP referral, however we will work closely with GP’s and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible care for you and your family.
Our treatments
At Preston Drove Osteopaths your initial appointment will last for up to one hour. This includes a detailed medical case history, examination, diagnosis, manual treatment and advice. Examination involves simple movements and, if necessary, neurological and orthopaedic tests.
As Osteopaths we use a variety of techniques which we will tailor to your individual needs. Treatment may involve gentle techniques to work on muscles, ligaments, joints and fascia as well as joint manipulation. Very gentle cranial osteopathic techniques can be used for children and adults. You may also be given advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring. When appropriate, you may be referred for diagnostic tests such as x-rays and MRIs.
Follow-up appointments may be 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Follow-up sessions may include discussion of symptom progression, treatment / revision of exercises.
Please wear clothing that you are comfortable to move around and be treated in for example underwear or vest top with shorts or leggings. Please speak to your osteopath before your appointment if you would like to bring a chaperone along to your appointment. Thank you.
